And
the Oscar goes to….
The
Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences hands out the Academy Awards®,
otherwise known as "The Oscars®" once a year. Oscars®
are given to honor excellence in the field of entertainment.
The
Academy is a professional organization, consisting of over 6,000 members.
Its purpose is to promote and advance the arts and sciences of motion
pictures. It originated in 1927, and its first president was Douglas Fairbanks,
Sr. Membership includes: actors, art directors, cinematographers, directors,
executives, film editors, music, producers, public relations, short films
and feature animation, sound, visual effects and writers.
Films
that have won Oscars® represent the "best of the best" —
they have been selected by a group of those in the industry as the best
in that particular category that the film industry has to offer for that
year.
