Prof. K. Pratap Reddy is a distinguished academician and researcher in the field of Zoology, with over three decades of teaching and research experience. Born on June 15, 1961, in Yacharam, Ranga Reddy District, Telangana, he completed his early education at Osmania University, where he earned a B.Sc. (Hons) in Zoology with distinction in 1981. He went on to receive an M.Sc. in Neurobiology in 1983, followed by a Ph.D. in Zoology (Neurobiology) in 1988, also from Osmania University.
Prof. Reddy began his academic career as an Assistant Professor at Osmania University in 1989 and steadily advanced through the ranks, becoming an Associate Professor in 1998 and a full Professor in 2006. He retired in 2021 after a prolific career, during which he contributed extensively to both teaching and research. He has mentored 25 Ph.D. students and has over 104 publications in national and international journals, with 1319 citations and a notable h-index of 16. His academic contributions also include the presentation of 487 papers at various conferences, the publication of 7 books, and the completion of 12 major research projects.
In addition to his teaching and research accomplishments, Prof. Reddy has held several key administrative positions at Osmania University. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Science from 2020-2021 and was the Principal of the University College of Science from 2018-2020. He also held the post of Registrar at Osmania University from 2013-2014. Further, he served as the Head of the Department of Zoology, the Director of the Directorate of Admissions, and the Chairman of the Board of Studies in Zoology. His leadership extended to the Ross Institute of Parasitology, where he served as Director from 2016-2018.
Throughout his career, Prof. Reddy has been recognized with several prestigious awards. He received the State Meritorious Teacher Award from the Government of Telangana in 2017 and the UGC-BSR Mid-Career Award in 2015 from the UGC, New Delhi. His early research excellence was acknowledged with the S.S. Parmar Foundation Prize in 1987. His academic legacy continues to inspire many in the field of Zoology, particularly in the area of Neurobiology.
