Devaryamjal temple land case: Officials examine Nizam-era Pahanis

Sources said the Vigilance and ACB officials took the decades-old documents, including Pahanis, from the State Archives to gather complete details with regard to the endowment lands at Devaryamja

Hyderabad: An in-depth investigation is under way into the alleged encroachment of the Devaryamjal temple lands in Medchal district.

Vigilance and ACB officials are said to be in the process of examining the archives at the State Archives office in Tarnaka and examining some ancient documents, including Pahanis, pertaining to the temple lands.

Sources said the Vigilance and ACB officials took the decades-old documents, including Pahanis, from the State Archives to gather complete details with regard to the endowment lands at Devaryamjal as per the directions of the IAS officers committee appointed by the State government. It is learnt that the crucial documents have information pertaining to the 1,525 acres land being gifted by the then Nawab of Nizam State to Sri Sita Rama Swamy temple at Devaryamjal.

Further, the officials’ team is also investigating the role of officials from the Revenue and Panchayat Raj departments who allowed registration of these endowment lands and also gave permission for construction works. They reportedly questioned the officials concerned as to how the registrations were allowed even after the government of erstwhile Andhra ePradesh issued orders prohibited the registration of endowment lands in 2004.

They took up investigation against the then revenue officials who allowed the mutation of these lands despite prohibitory orders.
