Muzaffarnagar: A 72-year-old man and his 70-year-old wife were found dead at their home in Jansath, Muzaffarnagar, on Friday. Police suspect suicide and have launched an investigation.
Ramkumar Singh and Geeta Devi lived with their son Deepak and his wife Santosh. Police said the couple was alone at home when they allegedly took the extreme step. Their son, who runs Ramkumar's tea stall, was at work, while his wife was also away. When the two returned, they found the elderly couple unresponsive and rushed them to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
DSP Yatender Nagar said, "No poisonous substance was recovered from the spot. The family refused to allow a postmortem examination. Further investigation is underway, and action will be taken accordingly."
A neighbour said that Ramkumar had been bedridden for the past few weeks due to asthma, and Geeta Devi was caring for him. Nearly a decade ago, the couple had lost their younger son to suicide, which had deeply affected the family. Police are verifying all possible angles behind the deaths.
