NEW DELHI: The Taj Mahal has been the highest revenue-generating ASI-protected monument through ticket sales over the last five years, as per government data.
Union culture minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat provided the figures in a written response to a Rajya Sabha query on Thursday. He was asked to disclose the revenue generated by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) from entry ticket sales, categorised by year and monument, over the past five years.
The data, presented in tabular format, covered financial years from FY19-20 to FY23-24 and confirmed that the Mughal-era mausoleum remained the top earner throughout the period.
Commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century, the Taj Mahal is regarded as one of the world's most magnificent architectural marvels.
