Paigah scion Mujeeb Yar Jung dead

Mujeeb Yar Jung, one of the half a dozen surviving nobles and the recipient of the title 'Jung' from the last Nizam of Hyderabad State Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan, died on Monday.

HYDERABAD: Mujeeb Yar Jung, one of the half a dozen surviving nobles and the recipient of the title ���Jung' from the last Nizam of Hyderabad State Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan, and a noted expert on Indian and Islamic arts died on Monday.
Mujeeb Yar Jung, 81, was a scion of Paigah family and the son-in-law of Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan.
He is survived by his second wife Mahboob Begum and three daughters from his late first wife Ramzani Begum.

Sultan Ghalib, his nephew, said that he was one of the most erudite nobles of Hyderabad. "I have watched him from very close quarters. His insight into the history, culture and art of Hyderabad was amazing," he told TOI.
Mujeeb Yar Jung belonged to the Sir Viqarul Umra branch of Paigah. Sir Viqar, the builder of Falaknuma and several other palaces in Hyderabad, had two sons -Sultanul Mulk and Waliuddaulah. Mujeeb Yar Jung was born to the son of Sultanul Mulk, Nazeer Nawaz Jung, and Dawoodunnisa Begum, daughter of the sixth Nizam Mir Mahboob Ali Khan.
"He was royalty embodied. His English was superb so were his Urdu and Persian. He wrote poetry in both English and Urdu. His Haiku poems are critically acclaimed. His knowledge of swords was amazing," Faiz Khan, an authority on Hyderabadi culture, said.
