CDO pulls up medical college for listing dead woman as hospitalised
Meerut: Chief development officer (CDO) of Meerut, Nupur Goyal, issued a notice to a private medical college on Friday after a 50-year-old woman was falsely shown as hospitalised even after her death—allegedly to claim benefits under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
The incident came to light after Mohd Asif, a resident of Lohia Nagar, filed a complaint with the District Grievances Redressal Committee (DGRC). He stated that his mother was admitted to the hospital on March 10 and referred to another facility on March 21, where she died on March 23. However, the Ayushman Bharat portal continued to show her as "alive" and admitted at the first hospital until March 24.
The hospital, which functions within the premises of the medical college, came under scrutiny following the complaint.
On Tuesday, Goyal summoned the chief medical superintendent (CMS) of the college for a hearing. "We've heard one side of the story. If negligence is found, strict action will be taken," Goyal told TOI.
During an initial probe, Ayushman Mitra Deepak Kumar denied the allegations, but portal records appeared to support the complaint. The CDO has asked the college for a formal explanation. No college official was available for comment.
