Hiphop Adhi announces scholarship initiative for underprivileged students
Popular musician and actor Hiphop Adhi has launched an initiative to provide scholarships for the college education of underprivileged students in association with a city university.
Talking about how this collaboration came through, Adhi shares, “Recently, when I’d visited the university for their cultural, since I advocate the importance of education in my art and interviews, they told me that if I could bring them deserving candidates, they’d offer them scholarships at their college. Even before we entered films, we had fan clubs, who used to organise several welfare activities frequently. It’s been more than a decade now and they are still operating. So, I decided to use our fan organisation, the Hiphop Tamizha Fan Foundation, for this purpose and do this every year.”
Delving into how the foundation would choose the candidates, he reveals, “Our members would go around Tamil Nadu and scout for deserving candidates who need a scholarship to continue their education. We will also be launching an online portal through which anyone in need of a scholarship can reach out to us with the necessary documents, like mark sheets. Members of our fan clubs in every district will then reach out to them, do the verification and identify people who are really in need of support and connect them with the college.”
Students from families in the lower economic group, single-parent children, and those who have the marks but cannot afford fees to pursue their education are among those who would benefit from this initiative, he adds.
“In fact, after hearing about this initiative, a few other colleges, too, have reached out to us, wanting us to collaborate with them for their scholarship programmes,” he signs off.
