Exclusive 'Thandel' Thrill With Naga Chaitanya: Love, Life & Wedding To Sobhita Dhulipala | WATCH
Samantha and Naga Chaitanya got married in 2017 and announced their separation in 2021. They first shared the screen in the 2010 film 'Ye Maaya Chesave', directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. The duo’s on-screen chemistry won over fans, and they went on to collaborate on several more films before their marriage.
On the work front, Naga Chaitanya released his new movie Thandel on February 7. The film, directed by Chandoo Mondeti, is based on a true story in which 20 Indian fishermen from Andhra Pradesh were captured by Pakistan authorities and imprisoned for 22 years. Samantha will soon be seen in the action web series 'Rakht Brahmand' alongside Aditya Roy Kapur. She will also make a comeback to Tollywood with 'Maa Inti Bangaram', which is expected to be a female-centric action thriller.
Allu Aravind, at an event, disclosed the details of the true story. He said, “This true story happened in (a place) nearby Vizag, in a small village. People had gone to Gujarat for fishing for 30 days. Unfortunately, due to some weather problem, they crossed the international borders and suddenly they realised that Pakistan people had caught them and taken them to jail. They were there for 22 years. Their families in the village -- how they suffered, how they rose to bring them back, and what their struggle was -- this is the story of the film.”
After Sobhita Dhulipala cheered for Chaitanya's performance, his father, superstar Nagarjuna Akkineni, shared a heartfelt post on X.“Proud of you, my son! 'Thandel' is a testament to your passion and hard work. Thank you to all Akkineni fans for your endless support!" Nagarjuna wrote, also praising Allu Aravind, Bunny Vas, Sai Pallavi, Devi Sri Prasad, and director Chandoo Mondeti for their contributions. Chaitanya reshared his father’s post, thanking him for the kind words as celebrations for the film’s success continue.
Meanwhile, Naga Chaitanya's recent outing 'Thandel' is performing well at the box office. The Sai Pallavi starrer has collected an impressive Rs 44.35 crores in India in its first five days. ETimes review for the movie reads, "Thandel is an engaging romantic action drama that delivers on its promise. While there are moments where the narrative could have been tighter, the film’s decent storytelling, moving music, stunning visuals and brilliant lead performances ensure it leaves an impact. If you’re looking for an intense love story with drama, action, and a touch of patriotism, Thandel is worth a watch.” According to the latest updates, 'Thandel' has collected Rs 49 crores from India.
On the other hand, Samantha Ruth Prabhu was last seen in the thriller web series 'Citadel: Honey Bunny' where she starred opposite the Bollywood star Varun Dhawan. Created by Raj & DK, the show received good reviews from the audiences for it's perfect mix of action and drama. ETimes gave a rating of 3 out of 5 stars for the thriller and our review reads, "The show's production design is commendable, effectively transporting viewers to the 90s and early 2000s. The action sequences are exciting and impactful, despite being devoid of modern gadgets and high-tech vehicles. The concept of a civilian being thrust into the spy world offers significant potential for character development. However, Honey's transformation from a struggling actress to a hardened spy feels somewhat underdeveloped as it focuses only on her training. Her moral compass sets her apart from other morally ambiguous spies, giving her the most interesting character arc." Samantha's performance in 'Citadel: Honey Bunny' also received good reviews from the audiences.
