‘Save Waqf, save the Constitution’: AIMPLB plans nationwide movement against amendments
NEW DELHI: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has condemned the recent Waqf Amendments passed by Parliament, calling them a “severe assault” on Islamic values, Shariah, religious freedom, communal harmony, and the foundational structure of the Indian Constitution.
In a strongly worded statement following a high-level meeting of Board officials and special invitees, the AIMPLB announced a nationwide movement in coordination with religious, community-based, and social organizations to oppose the amendments until they are repealed in full.
The Board accused certain political parties of aligning with the BJP’s “communal agenda” and said their support had “exposed the so-called secular facade” of these parties. It reassured the Muslim community that “there is no need for despair or disappointment,” and declared that the leadership would not shy away from any sacrifice in its efforts.

Legal and democratic action planned
As per the statement issued by AIMPLB, general secretary Maulana Mohammed Fazlurrahim Mujaddidi outlined the contours of the campaign, saying that the Board would adopt a two-pronged approach — legal and peaceful democratic resistance.
  • Legal action will be taken in the Supreme Court to challenge the “discriminatory and unjust amendments.” Simultaneously, a nationwide protest campaign will include:
  • Peaceful demonstrations and symbolic protests such as wearing black armbands
  • Roundtable meetings with fellow citizens to counter misinformation and promote constitutional awareness

Press conferences across cities
  • Symbolic arrests by Muslim leadership in all state capitals
  • District-level protests, followed by submission of memorandums to the President and the Home Minister via District Magistrates and Collectors

Weeklong campaign: ‘Save Waqf, save the Constitution’
The first phase of the movement will span a full week — from one Friday to the next — under the theme “Save Waqf, Save the Constitution.” The focus during this period will be on building awareness through:
  • Roundtable discussions to counter government narratives with facts and logic
  • A multi-faith meeting in Delhi involving leaders of other religions and representatives from their respective Waqf institutions

Major cities, grand launch
Large-scale protest events are planned in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Vijayawada, Malappuram, Patna, Ranchi, Malerkotla, and Lucknow. The campaign will begin with a grand public gathering at Talkatora Stadium in Delhi and continue through Eid al-Adha, after which the second phase will be announced.
Appeal for discipline and patience
As per the letter, Mujaddidi made a strong appeal to the youth to remain calm and patient. “Do not take any action driven by emotions that might provide opportunities for sectarian and disruptive forces,” he said. He called for unity, discipline, and peaceful conduct, requesting individuals not to act independently but to follow the Board’s guidance.
Quoting the Holy Quran (Surah Al-Ankabut, 69), he said: “And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.”
He also emphasized the importance of fulfilling responsibilities sincerely and placing trust in divine justice: “May Allah be our protector and helper.”
