How to make South-Indian style Cabbage Thoran at home

Craving for a delicious and healthy Cabbage recipe, which can be made in just a few minutes and is super healthy? Then try this South Indian Style Cabbage Thoran at home. This dry, stir-fried vegetable dish is a staple in Kerala cuisine and pairs wonderfully with steamed rice and sambar.

Ingredients:

1 medium-sized cabbage, 1 cup grated coconut, 2 green chilies, finely chopped, 1 small onion, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 2 tbsp coconut oil, a few curry leaves, salt to taste, fresh coriander for garnish.

Step 1

To begin with this easy recipe, wash and shred the cabbage finely. Set aside.

If using fresh coconut, grate it and set aside.

Add chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent.Add green chilies and sauté for another 30 seconds.

Step 3

Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.Add cumin seeds and curry leaves. Sauté for a few seconds.

Step 5

Add the shredded cabbage to the pan.Sprinkle turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.

Cover and cook on low heat for 5-7 minutes until the cabbage is tender but still crisp. Add the grated coconut to the cabbage mixture.

Mix well and cook uncovered for another 2-3 minutes until the coconut is slightly toasted and the flavors are well combined.Turn off the heat. Add a dash of black pepper if desired.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
