India vs Bangladesh Highlights, 2nd Test Day 1: Rain forces early stumps in Kanpur; Bangladesh 107/3

Bad light followed by heavy rain ended play before tea on day one of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur with the visitors 107-3 on Friday.

Mominul Haque, on 40, and Mushfiqur Rahim, on six, were batting when dark clouds made visibility tough and umpires took the players off the ground after lunch.

The match could be the last Test outing for former Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who announced his impending international retirement on Thursday.

Bad news for fans. Play has been called off for the day due to incessant rain. Bangladesh ended the day on 107/3 after 35 overs. For India, pacer Akash Deep took two wickets in the first hour of play and Ravichandran Ashwin sent Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto early in the post-lunch session, which lasted just nine overs before bad light stopped the proceedings.

India, who lead the two-match series 1-0, elected to field in overcast conditions and fast bowler Akash Deep backed captain Rohit Sharma's decision with two wickets in the first hour of play.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who made 31, put on 51 runs with Mominul to play out the remainder of the first session. But first-match hero Ravichandran Ashwin removed the captain after lunch.

Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has now become the Indian bowler with the most Test wickets in Asia.

On Friday, during the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, Ashwin claimed the wicket of Najmul Hossain Shanto, taking his tally to 420 wickets in Asia. This achievement saw him surpass the previous record held by Anil Kumble, who had 419 wickets in the continent.

It has gotten dark in Kanpur. Umpires checked the conditions with a light meter and finally decided it to be too dark for play to continue. Players of both the teams are going off the field. And ground staff are bringing in covers as precaution.

Runs are coming thick and fast for Bangladesh at the moment. The fourth wicket partnership is now 27 off just 34 balls. Mominul Haque with a fortunate boundary, the ball flies over third slip off an edge.

Unlucky! It was pitching just outside leg by the smallest of margin. But unfortunately India lost the review. The second wrong review for India and both times it was pitching outside leg verdict. This time the bowler is Akash Deep.

'It was plumb'! Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto took a review but lost it. Ravichandran Ashwin bowled it from round the wicket and trapped Shanto leg before wicket. The review showed that it was plumb in front of the wicket. Shanto scored 31 off 57 balls, including four boundaries, and added a valuable 51 runs for the third wicket with Mominul Haque.

Ravichandran Ashwin started the post-lunch proceedings with a three-run over. The third wicket stand between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque is nearing 50 now.

Pacer Akash Deep struck twice in overcast conditions to dismiss both openers but Bangladesh fought back through skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and reached 74 for two at lunch on the opening day of the second Test that had a delayed start due to wet outfield, here on Friday. Looking to exploit the pace-friendly conditions, skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl, keeping all three pacers in the playing XI.

Deep (2/14) was impressive with his consistent length balls that bounced and moved away, not giving the batters much of a choice but to adopt a safe approach.

Shanto (28 batting, 4s-6) batted with positive intent, if not combative, to ensure Bangladesh don't lose away. He had Mominul Haque (17 off 48) for the company at the break.

It's time for LUNCH BREAK on Day 1 of the second Test. And it's drizzling in Kanpur. An even-steven first session of the match. India dominated the first hour and took 2 wickets for 37 runs in 13 overs. Young Akash Deep with the wickets for India. After that skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (28*) and Mominul Haque (17*) rebuild the Bangladesh innings with a solid unbeaten 45 runs partnership in the middle. So, the visitors went into the break at 74/2 after 26 overs.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (26*) continued to hit boundaries regularly. This time he reverse-swept one off Ravichandran Ashwin for his sixth boundary of the day as Bangladesh collected five runs in it. A good partnership building up for the visitors at the moment after the early blows.

Big shout against Mominul Haque (10*) for LBW. India went for another review. Jasprit Bumrah looked confident as the ball hit the back pad. But the replay showed that it just clipped the bail, so the umpire's decision prevailed. India kept the review and Bangladesh kept the wicket.

For the first time in the day, the sun is out in Kanpur.

Mominul Haque (10*) cut it through the gap for another four. Runs are coming fast since the second wicket for Bangladesh. The floodlights are on now at Green Park to compensate for the bad light.

First loose delivery from Akash Deep - short and wide of off stump. Mominul Haque slices it over gully fielder for a four, and brings up 50 for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (16* off 15) is dealing in boundaries at the moment. Another one off his bat's edge, off Mohammed Siraj, went past the gully fielder for a four, his fourth of the innings.

Big shout for LBW from Mohammed Siraj. Najmul Hossain Shanto (12*), who got a four off an edge in the previous delivery, was inside his crease like Shadman Islam when the ball hit the pad. But the replay showed that the ball pitched just outside the leg stump line, and with that India lost a review.

The pacer started the over with a big wicket of Shadman Islam, but ended up conceding 8 runs in it. India dominated the first hour of play. Drinks Break in Kanpur!

Brilliant review from Akash Deep. Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant had some doubt about the line. It looked like it was missing the leg stump. But the pacer forced the India skipper to take the review and it turned out to be an excellent one. Shadman Islam (24 off 36, 4x4s) was inside the crease when the ball hit the pads, and the review showed that it was hitting the leg stump. Second wicket for Akash Deep. Bangladesh lost their second wicket in the first hour of play.

Another excellent catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal. He grabbed it with two hands diving to his right at gully. Umpires sent it up to the third umpire to check the catch as it was a very low grab. Third umpire expressed that he didn't have a clear angle to conclude that the ball was touching the ground and decided it as 'OUT". Zakir Hasan was struggling in the middle and went back to the pavilion for a 24-ball duck. Akash Deep opens his spell with a wicket.

4,0,0,0,0,4 - Good one for Bangladesh. After starting with three maiden overs, Jasprit Bumrah conceded two boundaries in it. Shadman Islam (17* off 22) smashed two fours in it, off the first and last balls of the over.
