JJ Watts believes age will be the sole reason for Travis Kelce's struggles rather than Taylor Swift

Travis Kelce, Kansas City's tight end, saw a resurgence after underwhelming early performances, contributing to a new franchise record. Criticisms regarding his relationship with Taylor Swift and off-field activities persist. JJ Watt defends him, attributing any decline to age. Taylor Swift's game absences are due to security concerns, not relationship issues with Kelce.

Travis Kelce, a tight end, has returned to form after struggling in Kansas City's opening three games, amassing just 69 yards and eight receptions combined. The Chiefs went 4-0 with a 17-10 victory, setting a new franchise record. Analysts like Tony Romo and Jim Nantz have questioned Kelce's potential decline, while others have speculated that his relationship with Taylor Swift or busy life off the field, including TV work, may have contributed to his sluggish performances.

Kelce, turning 35, is reducing junk food intake to prolong his career and prevent lethargy during games. JJ Watt, a defensive-end and analyst, believes age will eventually be the sole reason for Kelce's struggles.

JJ Watts stands with Travis Kelce amid criticism

Travis Kelce, who assisted his Chiefs in ending the Chargers victory streak within week 4, vented over dwindling numbers, but Taylor Swift earned herself some side-eye. Former DE JJ Watt thinks otherwise with him stating that the team is still in a possibility of going for a 3-peat. Watt on Pat McAfee Show has backed Kelce from criticisms where he claims that the tight end was being criticized wrong at the age of 34.

Watt said, “He is getting older (and) at some point, your stats start to go down. People don’t need to find something to blame it on—his offseason, his girlfriend, whatever it may be. At some point, football’s football, man. You can’t do it until you’re 45 years old – especially at a tight end position like that. So, we can’t analyze every single week: Oh my gosh, is he…? Yeah, at some point, you do start to slow down.”
Watt, who retired after the 2022 season, stated that he is expected to retire at some point, and people shouldn't blame him for it, whether it's his offseason or girlfriend. "At some point it’s just: football is football, it’s hard, you play it for a very long time and as you get a little older it gets a little more difficult. So if you want to pinpoint something because you want a clickbait headline, or you want to get all the Swifties riled up, go for it. But the truth is: sometimes football is just football.”

Kelce’s aware of the chatter surrounding his stats this season. “I’m not listening to the outside noise,” Kelce said. Taylor Swift's absence from Chiefs games is not drama-driven, but rather about security at different stadiums, not her romance with Travis. “If she is going to a place that isn’t Arrowhead, there are security concerns,” a source shared with PageSix.
