This week’s edition of SmackDown built further towards WrestleMania 41 and set the tone for the last blue brand show before the grand spectacle next week.
The April 11th edition of Friday Night SmackDown was presented from the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington. The show was a night of jam-packed action, further increasing the hype on the road to WrestleMania 41, and featured memorable moments.
Opening segment with Randy Orton
Randy Orton and Nick Aldis were face-to-face in the ring. Orton was still hell-bent on having a replacement opponent for WrestleMania 41 after Kevin Owens announced his surgery. Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga came out to interrupt them and attacked Randy Orton. This led to LA Knight making his way to the ring and neutralizing the duo, leading to a tag team match made for later that night.
Tag Team Gauntlet match
This match was to crown the No.1 contenders for Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez’s
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 41. The team of Bayley and Lyra Valkyria started the match against Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler. After Stark and Baszler were eliminated, Natalya and Maxxine Dupri entered the match next, only to be eliminated too. Next to enter the match were Kayden Carter and Katana Chance, who also were dispatched by Bayley and Valkyria. The next team to enter was Michin and B-Fab, but Bayey eliminated B-Fab to advance. The last team to enter was Piper Niven and Alba Fyre. The match went back and forth between them, leading to a ‘This is Awesome’ chant. In the end, Lyra planted Alba and pinned her to win the match for her team.
Drew McIntyre & Damian Priest segment
Drew McIntyre attacked Damian Priest before he made his way to the ring. McIntyre revealed that his eye injury had healed and he was clear about wrestling. Priest came back to the ringside, and a brawl broke out between the duo. However, in the end, McIntyre gained the upper hand, raking Priest’s eyes and planting him with a Future Shock DDT on the steel steps.
Rey Fenix vs Berto
This was Rey Fenix’s second match for the company. Both men delivered a high-octane and jam-packed action thriller inside the ring. The final moments of the bout saw Rey Fenix delivering a Mexican Muscle Buster on Berto to pick up the victory.
Chelsea Green vs Zelina Vega
This was a non-title match. However, the match ended in minutes, as Chelsea Green was counted out, and Zelina Vega won, leaving her shocked.
Cody Rhodes segment
Cody Rhodes came out to the ring with different versions of the WWE Championship placed on podiums. He acknowledged all former champions, including John Cena, while looking at the WWE title spinner. Rhodes took shots at Cena and vowed to leave WrestleMania 41 still as the WWE Champion, not letting Cena complete his evil plans.
Tiffany Stratton vs Roxanne Perez
This was a non-title singles match. The match was a sight of jam-packed action as both standouts of WWE NXT delivered a highly captivating showdown. Towards the final moments, Stratton gained the upper hand and delivered the Prettiest Moonsault Ever on Perez to pick up the win. Following the bout, Charlotte Flair appeared out of nowhere and laid a beatdown on Tiffany Stratton.
Randy Orton & LA Knight vs Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga
This was the main event of the night. The match was a good showdown between the four superstars of SmackDown. In the end, the LA Knight and Randy Orton team scored the win after The Megastar planted Tama Tonga with the BFT. However, the night did not end well for him as Jacob Fatu blindsided him with an attack and delivered multiple moonsaults to him to close the show.
