Google is asking iPhone users to switch to its dedicated Gemini app. The company announced that it is removing Gemini support from the main Google app for iPhone users. While initially accessible through the Google app, Gemini's full functionality, including features like Gemini Live, has been exclusive to the standalone app for iPhones which was launched in November 2024.
In an email sent to users, the company is informing iPhone and iPad users that Gemini is “no longer available” in the Google app. This follows the removal of the Gemini/Search switcher which Google reportedly started disabling in iPhones earlier this month.
We at the TOI Tech desk were also able to see this change in the Google app on our Phones. Tapping the Gemini button on top of the Google app on iPhones now show a message that reads: “Gemini now has its own app. Download the Gemini app for iPhone”
This message was followed by a button that redirects to the Apple App Store listing of the Gemini app.
