Neiphiu Rio

Neiphiu Rio is an Indian politician who is currently serving as the Chief Minister of Nagaland, a state in Northeast India. He was born on 11 November 1950 in Kohima, Nagaland.

Rio started his political journey in 1989 when he was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He served as the Chief Minister of Nagaland for three terms from 2003 to 2014.

In 2018, Rio joined the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and was elected to the state assembly from the Northern Angami-II constituency. He was subsequently sworn in as the Chief Minister of Nagaland for the fourth time on March 8, 2018.

Rio has also served as a member of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament, representing the state of Nagaland.

In 2023, NDPP leader Neiphiu Rio took oath as the chief minister of Nagaland for the record fifth term.
