The Hindu festival of Chaitra Navratri is ongoing and it is typically a 9-day long festival. On the 4th day, goddess Kushmanda Devi is worshipped who is also known as Ashtabhuja Devi. It is said that by offering yellow fruits, flowers and clothes to the goddess, one can please the goddess who in return helps one get rid of all diseases and sufferings.
Significance of worshipping the goddess
The goddess has 8 arms and she holds a kamandal, bow, arrow, lotus flower, Amrit Kalash, chakra, mace and jaap mala in each one of them. She rides on a lion and so you can clearly imagine her as an embodiment of strong, powerful goddess who can help her devotees when they are in distress. If you're someone who wants to live a long, disease-free life, then you must worship the goddess. White is considered one of the auspicious colour to mark this day.Rituals to worship the goddess
- One must rise early, take bath, clean surroundings and set up the area where they can worship the goddess.
- One must meditate a little to invoke the divine blessings of the goddess when standing or sitting before her idol.
- One can bathe the goddess with water and panchamrit.
- Among other things one can also offer clothes, flowers, garlands and jewellery to the goddess.
- Offering kumhra (pumpkin), sweets, fruits, coconut to the goddess is also deemed auspicious.
- One can perform aarti by lighting a lamp and using some incense sticks.
